This thought is attributed in several places on the Internet to someone named Suzanne Chapin, but I couldn't identify her any further than that. The photograph is my own.
Today I saw a solitary flower similar to these (I'm not of a horticultural bent, but I know it wasn't a sunflower) growing out of a mound of dirt that had been dumped in the church grounds. It looked so lonely, yet it brought a smile to my face. A few wildflowers are now blooming after a hellish spring and summer. Fall is the new spring in Texas.
